The North Shore Weekend, a magazine aimed at the Chicago suburbs, is highlighting  Innovations for Learning and its founder and CEO, Seth Weinberger.

In its latest issue, writer Abby Wickman offers a nice summary of Innovations’ work: bringing technology and volunteers to underserved school districts to combat illiteracy in the earliest grades.

If children “don’t learn to read fluently in the first grade, you almost always set them on a trajectory of remediation,” Seth says in the article.

“We’ve had really positive results — as much as 14-point reading gains in Washington, D.C., in the last few years,” he adds. “Governors hold press conferences when there are two-point reading gains.”

Innovations is based in Evanston, Ill., just north of Chicago.

Here’s the article.

Thank you, North Shore Weekend!
